On June 7, 1944 war correspondent Ernie Pyle was on Omaha Beach. He wrote a column for the folks back home:
In this column I want to tell you what the opening of the second front in this one sector entailed, so that you can know and appreciate and forever be humbly grateful to those both dead and alive who did it for you.Throughout our history, America's military has protected and preserved the nation. It's brought freedom and security to hundreds of millions of people outside our borders. Without the American military, this world would soon witness the triumph of evil and the beginning of what Churchill warned would be "a new dark age made more sinister by the light of perverted science."
Pyle had it right. We should know, appreciate and be forever humbly grateful to our veterans and current serving forces, and to their families.

The MSM would never produce a Pyle given today's PC requirements.
They'd never publish a Maudlin on the OpEd either.

so true.... i cannot think of ONE msn reporter that would report like ernie pyle (well, at least for our side).
