Traveling March 23

Posting resumes tomorrow, Saturday, March 24.

I landed in California a few hours ago after flying from Australia.

I've read KC Johnson's post, More CrimeStoppers.

It's very interesting. I hope you take a look if you haven't already done so.

I'll comment on it tomorrow afternoon after I've reread it and reviewed some of my CrimeStoppers posts.

I also plan to post on the Raleigh N&O's March 25 "anonymous interview" story.

I'm going to sleep now.

John

Keep up the good work John,

Are there clues/leads to the producer of the vigilante poster ? I want that person(s) to fry.

Seems the DPD will have a lot of tough questions to answer.

BDay 11:28am --

I have no personal knowledge of the Vigilante Poster's origin, but it certainly is an interesting and important question. As a lesson learned from the Hoax, I wouldn't want anybody judged "guilty" without a chance to hear all sides of a story.

You may find this Google search to be informative.

It brings up a 2:23am comment from this D-i-W post. The anonymous commenter claims to have copied a lengthy email sent to the Yahoo! group http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DurhamResponds-discuss/ (its archives aren't indexed by search engines).

I found out about the case on Friday morning when the first news article came out about it, nearly two weeks after the woman made a report to the police. As someone who works with a rape-prevention group here in Durham, I know that reports of rapes rarely go more than 24 hours without being reported in the local newspaper. This is particularly true when the reported assailant is still at-large and/or unidentified, as was the case here. So, immediately, I felt that special treatment was being given to the case.

So, no, I don't feel a need to apologize because I don't regret any of how I participated.

Whether the author's "participation" included anything about the Vigilante Poster is yet to be determined. From last April to present, Duke as an institution appears to have been consistently incurious about the poster's authorship and on-campus distribution.
