Caroline Kennedy As Ambassadorial Appointee

Mrs. Kennedy is no more suited to be the US ambassador to the Holy See than Joh Walker Lindh is suited to be the ambassador to Saudi Arabia. Just because on eis on the religion of the country in question does not make one pre-emintently qualified. The duties of an ambassador involve negotiating with the country to which one is appointed. The Kenndedys do not hold the sway that they once did within the Catholic church - primarily because the Church's position (rightly or wrongly) on abortion, gay rights,etc. are not the position of the Kenndedys. Thus, her appointment would be viewed as a slap in the face by the Holy See much the same as John Walker Lindh or any of the others who support Taliban activities would be viewed by the Saudi government which views the Taliban and radical Islamic fundamentalism of all stribes (except Wahhabism)as dangerous.
However, Obama seems to have a deaf ear in this regard. THere would be one interesting thing if he would go ahead and appoint Mrs. Kennedy over the Holy See's protest - she would heve to submit her financial records to the Senate - my bet is that another tax "cheat" would be revealed!

The only country to which Princess Caroline is qualified to be Ambassador is Vietnam. Her father's half hearted temper tantrum there after he blew the Bay of Pigs cost us over 60 thousand lives. Maybe she could start to undo the damage.
